The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise. The way of life winds upward for the wise that he may turn away from hell below. By them the birds of the heavens have their home; they sing among the branches.
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, (All flesh is grass), the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”;
The second Man is the Lord from heaven, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will. From this man’s seed, according to the promise, God raised up for Israel a Savior—Jesus—’and it was so. And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
The first man was of the earth, made of dust; “And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them nor be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you and you dwell among scorpions; do not be afraid of their words or dismayed by their looks, though they are a rebellious house. It shall happen in that day, that wherever there could be a thousand vines worth a thousand shekels of silver, it will be for briers and thorns. These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; and they shall eat up your harvest and your bread, which your sons and daughters should eat. They shall eat up your flocks and your herds; they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees; they shall destroy your fortified cities, In which you trust, with the sword.
So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the Garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
Behold, the day of the Lord comes, Cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger, To lay the land desolate; And He will destroy its sinners from it.
(Will You frighten a leaf driven to and fro? And will You pursue dry stubble?)
Shall the ax boast itself against him who chops with it? Or shall the saw exalt itself against him who saws with it?
“And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, Of which she has said, ‘These are my wages that my lovers have given me I will make them a forest, And the beasts of the field shall eat them. Behold, the Lord, The Lord of hosts, Will lop off the bough with terror; Those of high stature will be hewn down, And the haughty will be humbled. And if a tree falls to the south or the north, In the place where the tree falls, there it shall lie.
What will you do in the day of punishment, And in the desolation which will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? And where will you leave your glory?
I have commanded My sanctified ones; I have also called My mighty ones for My anger—Those who rejoice in My exaltation.” They come from a far country, from the end of heaven—The Lord and His weapons of indignation, to destroy the whole land. For wickedness burns as the fire; It shall devour the briers and thorns, And kindle in the thickets of the forest; You sent forth Your wrath; It consumed them like stubble. And the people shall be as fuel for the fire; No man shall spare his brother. And he shall snatch on the right hand And be hungry; He shall devour on the left hand And not be satisfied; Every man shall eat the flesh of his own arm.
(If the righteous will be recompensed on the earth, How much more the ungodly and the sinner?)
If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”
Now when I looked, there was a hand stretched out to me; and behold, a scroll of a book was in it. Then He spread it before me; and there was writing on the inside and on the outside, and written on it were lamentations and mourning and woe. And He said to me, “Son of man, feed your belly, and fill your stomach with this scroll that I give you.” So I ate, and it was in my mouth like honey in sweetness. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. And in the greatness of Your excellence You have overthrown those who rose against You; And all flesh died that moved on the earth: birds and cattle and beasts and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, and every man. All in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, all that was on the dry land, died.
Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious.
And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.
And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual.
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.
