“For ask now concerning the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and ask from one end of heaven to the other, whether any great thing like this has happened, or anything like it has been heard.
According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt, even to this day—with which they have forsaken Me and served other gods—so they are doing to you also.
And in their hearts they turned back to Egypt, saying to Aaron, ‘Make us gods to go before us; as for this Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’
I drew them with gentle cords, With bands of love, And I was to them as those who take the yoke from their neck. and said to the children of Israel, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel:
‘I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all kingdoms and from those who oppressed you.’
“Therefore I made them go out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.
On that day I raised My hand in an oath to them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, ‘flowing with milk and honey,’ the glory of all lands.
Then I said to them, ‘Each of you, throw away the abominations which are before his eyes, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.’
You gave them bread from heaven for their hunger, And brought them water out of the rock for their thirst, And told them to go in to possess the land
Which You had sworn to give them. Yet the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness; they did not walk in My statutes
I stooped and fed them.
And told them to go in to possess the land Which You had sworn to give them.
Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not fair.’
O house of Israel, is it not My ways which are fair, and your ways which are not fair?
“But they and our fathers acted proudly, Hardened their necks, And did not heed Your commandments. They refused to obey,
they did not walk in My statutes; they despised My judgments, ‘which, if a man does, he shall live by them’; and they greatly defiled My Sabbaths.
And they were not mindful of Your Wonders That You did among them. But they hardened their necks, and in their rebellion They appointed a leader To return to their bondage.
Then I said I would pour out My fury on them in the wilderness, to consume them. Nevertheless, My eye spared them from destruction. I did not make an end of them in the wilderness.
Therefore the Lord God of Israel says:
‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever.’
But now the Lord says: ‘Far be it from Me;
for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.
Where are Your zeal and Your strength, The yearning of Your heart and Your mercies toward me?
Are they restrained?
They return, but not to the Most High; They are like a treacherous bow.
Their princes shall fall by the sword For the cursings of their tongue. This shall be their derision in the land of Egypt. But the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to repent.
“As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us; yet we have not made our prayer before the Lord our God, that we might turn from our iniquities and understand Your truth.

There is a multitude of waters in the heavens: In the seas and in all deep places,
Whatever the Lord pleases He does, In heaven and in earth,
“For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off.
Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,
“Pass through the camp and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess.’” On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord. “They should be swift on the face of the waters
Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They indeed say, ‘Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off!’

On this day you are going out, in the month Abib.
Turn and take your journey, and go to the mountains of the Amorites, to all the neighboring places in the plain,
And it shall be, when the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, which He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month.
I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath:
Blood and fire and vapor of smoke.
It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’
Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You;
Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. Selah
for the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed over,
The gates of the rivers are opened,
Then you went over the Jordan and came to Jericho. And the men of Jericho fought against you—also the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
But I delivered them into your hand.
to give you large and beautiful cities which you did not build, houses full of all good things, which you did not fill, hewn-out wells which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant--

Among the children of men who go down to the Pit.’

“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—
not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord.
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
“He shall not return to the land of Egypt;
“Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem Will be pleasant to the Lord,
As in the days of old, as in former years. And I will come near you for judgment; I will be a swift witness
Against sorcerers, Against adulterers, Against perjurers, Against those who exploit wage earners and widows and orphans,And against those who turn away an alien--
Because they do not fear Me,” Says the Lord of hosts.
“For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.
Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Are you defiling yourselves in the manner of your fathers, and committing harlotry according to their abominations?
‘Whom do you surpass in beauty?
Go down, be placed with the uncircumcised.’ “They shall fall in the midst of those slain by the sword; She is delivered to the sword, Drawing her and all her multitudes.

when you have eaten and are full— then beware, lest you forget the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
how our fathers went down to Egypt, and we dwelt in Egypt a long time, and the Egyptians afflicted us and our fathers.
When we cried out to the Lord, He heard our voice and sent the Angel and brought us up out of Egypt; now here we are in Kadesh, a city on the edge of your border.
Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. Please let us pass through your country. We will not pass through fields or vineyards, nor will we drink water from wells; we will go along the King’s Highway; we will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left until we have passed through your territory.’”
In the morning you shall say, ‘Oh, that it were evening!’ And at evening you shall say, ‘Oh, that it were morning!’ because of the fear which terrifies your heart, and because of the sight which your eyes see.
“And the Lord will take you back to Egypt in ships, by the way of which I said to you, ‘You shall never see it again.’ And there you shall be offered for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you.”
But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
But You are God, Ready to pardon, Gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, Abundant in kindness, And did not forsake them.
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Know that the Lord, He is God;It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
“You have heard; See all this. And will you not declare it?
I have made you hear new things from this time, Even hidden things, and you did not know them.
Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works Which You have done; And Your thoughts toward us Cannot be recounted to You in order;
If I would declare and speak of them, They are more than can be numbered.
When with rebukes You correct man for iniquity, You make his beauty melt away like a moth; Surely every man is vapor. Selah
“The Lord kills and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and brings up. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
Blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Therefore know this day, and consider it in your heart, that the Lord Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other. In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.
“Hear my prayer, O Lord, And give ear to my cry; Do not be silent at my tears;
For I am a stranger with You, A sojourner, as all my fathers were. Remove Your gaze from me, that I may regain strength, Before I go away and am no more.”

Oh, restore us again!
You have made the earth tremble;
Elders of Gebal and its wise men Were in you to caulk your seams; Heal its breaches, for it is shaking.
You have broken it;
The earth that is not satisfied with water--
To what were its foundations fastened?
You have made the earth tremble;
Elders of Gebal and its wise men Were in you to caulk your seams; Heal its breaches, for it is shaking.
You have broken it;
The earth that is not satisfied with water--
To what were its foundations fastened?
Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?
“Or who shut in the sea with doors, When it burst forth and issued from the womb;
Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.
“Or who shut in the sea with doors, When it burst forth and issued from the womb;
Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
The place was called the Valley of Eshcol, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
We found it in the fields of the woods. For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, And the men of Judah are His pleasant plant.
Let us go into his tabernacle; Let us worship at this footstool.
Whose glorious beauty is a fading flower Which is at the head of the verdant valleys,
Your holy people have possessed it but a little while;

Thus says God the Lord,
Who created the heavens and stretched them out,
Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it,
Who gives breath to the people on it,
And spirit to those who walk on it:
Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited:
“I am the Lord, and there is no other.
I made you thrive like a plant in the field; and you grew, matured, and became very beautiful. Your breasts were formed, your hair grew, but you were naked and bare
“And when I passed by you and saw you struggling in your own blood, I said to you in your blood, ‘Live!’ Yes, I said to you in your blood, ‘Live!’
For I have heard from the Lord God of hosts, A destruction determined even upon the whole earth.
For You have made a city a ruin, A fortified city a ruin, A palace of foreigners to be a city no more; It will never be rebuilt.
The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all.
Who created the heavens and stretched them out,
Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it,

‘Hear the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:
I am exceedingly angry with the nations at ease;
For I was a little angry, And they helped—but with evil intent.”
“Behold, I will bring such a catastrophe on this place, that whoever hears of it, his ears will tingle.
‘In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”’”
Therefore look!
The Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and the Lord has declared disaster against you.”
Against whom do you make a wide mouth And stick out the tongue?
Whom do you ridicule?
“Present your case,” says the Lord.
“Bring forth your strong reasons,” says the King of Jacob.
Are you not children of transgression, Offspring of falsehood,
“On a lofty and high mountain You have set your bed;
Even there you went up
I am exceedingly angry with the nations at ease;
Are you not children of transgression, Offspring of falsehood,
“On a lofty and high mountain You have set your bed;
Even there you went up
To offer sacrifice.
You are wearied in the length of your way;Yet you did not say, ‘There is no hope.’
So they cried aloud, and cut themselves, as was their custom, with knives and lances, until the blood gushed out on them.
You have found the life of your hand; Therefore you were not grieved. “And of whom have you been afraid, or feared,That you have lied And not remembered Me,
Nor taken it to your heart?
Is it not because I have held My peace from of old That you do not fear Me?
And you washed yourself for them, painted your eyes, and adorned yourself with ornaments.Though you clothe yourself with crimson, Though you adorn yourself with ornaments of gold, Though you enlarge your eyes with paint, who put bracelets on their wrists and beautiful crowns on their heads.Full of feathers of various colors. In vain you will make yourself fair;
“I watched till thrones were put in place, And the Ancient of Days was seated; His throne was a fiery flame, Its wheels a burning fire; A fiery stream issued.
…So You lead Your people, As a beast goes down into the valley To make Yourself a glorious name.
“Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, And rock of the plain,” says the Lord, “Who say, ‘Who shall come down against us?
Or who shall enter our dwellings?’
who gave My land to themselves as a possession, with wholehearted joy and spiteful minds, in order to plunder its open country.”’
...“O you sword of the Lord, How long until you are quiet? Put yourself up into your scabbard,
Rest and be still!
“Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God:
“Have you come to inquire of Me? As I live,” says the Lord God, “I will not be inquired of by you.”’
Selah!
…. The grasshopper is a burden…. And the sour grape is ripening in the flower.
And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. “For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language,That they all may call on the name of the Lord,To serve Him with one accord.

Parable of the Trees Judges 9:6-15
Now when they told Jotham, he went and stood on top of Mount Gerizim, and lifted his voice and cried out. And he said to them:
“Listen to me, you men of Shechem,
That God may listen to you!
“The trees once went forth to anoint a king over them.
And they said to the olive tree,
‘Reign over us!’
But the olive tree said to them,
‘Should I cease giving my oil,
With which they honor God and men,
And go to sway over trees?’
“Then the trees said to the fig tree,
‘You come and reign over us!’
But the fig tree said to them,
‘Should I cease my sweetness and my good fruit,
And go to sway over trees?’
“Then the trees said to the vine,
‘You come and reign over us!’
But the vine said to them,
‘Should I cease my new wine,
Which cheers both God and men,
And go to sway over trees?’
“Then all the trees said to the bramble,
‘You come and reign over us!’
And the bramble said to the trees,
‘If in truth you anoint me as king over you,
Then come and take shelter in my shade;
But if not, let fire come out of the bramble
And devour the cedars of Lebanon!’
